Blueberry pie

3/4 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 cups fresh blueberries
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
1 tablespoon butter

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
Mix sugar, cornstarch, salt, and cinnamon, and sprinkle over blueberries.
Line pie dish with one pie crust. Pour berry mixture into the crust, and dot with butter. Cut remaining pastry into 1/2 - 3/4 inch wide strips, and make lattice top. Crimp and flute edges.
Bake pie on lower shelf of oven for about 50 minutes, or until crust is golden brown.

Caramel Apple Jam

6 cups diced peeled apples (1/8 inch cubes)
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon butter
1 (1.75 ounce) package powdered fruit pectin
3 cups sugar
2 cups packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

In a large kettle, combine the apples, water and butter. Cook and stir over low heat until apples are soft. Stir in pectin and bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly. Add the sugars, cinnamon and nutmeg and return to a rolling boil. Boil for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Remove from the heat and skim off any foam. Ladle hot jam into hot sterilized jars, leaving 1/4-in. headspace. Adjust caps. Process for 10 minutes in a boiling-water bath.

Japanese people celebrate the new year for three days. Called "Sanganichi". We used to prepare meals for the upcoming 3 days in advance. We would put good luck foods in box like shaped containers stacked into three layers. We would eat the same foods for the three days. It sounds pretty boring, doesn't it!!! haha, It sure was!

Today is the last day of celebration for the new year! Sorry I couldn't post the card on actual new years day, at least I got it up a few days later! (in "Sanganichi")

We came back from Vermont last night.
We already miss Vermont in many ways.

A Merry Christmas!

I used to hide Santa's presents from my son. It was a little hard.
I was wrapped different paper from my presents to him.
Put a glass of milk and chocolate cookies in front of the chimney.
A cookie had one bite on it.
It was my Christmas Eve's work.
I know no more Santa presents between us, but I'm expecting my Santa is coming.

We don't do Santa's presents anymore, but we do little surprise in our stockings.

Tomorrow night - Family party. I need to wrap all of them.
25th --- we are going to Skiing.

I want to keep CAMPBELL SOUP ROBOT as my Santa Present!Frances and her doggies were waiting us to come!

First night at Frances's after dinner. We were at Frances work-shop house.
Starter was ice dyeing ! Girls prepared for dye powder!!!

What color is this?

Wait until tomorrow morning!

Second day's starter was checking ice dyeing fabrics.
"Look at this, Georges."We put all colors, Avocado, Indigo, Scarlet, Pink, Lemon,,,,,
But most of the fabrics were very greenish! We did not see Scarlet, Pink, Lemon,,,
But all ties got Scarlet, Pink, Lemon and blues.
Huuuum,,, we don't know why???

Then we moved upstairs and started The Executive's Journey projects.

Oops, I forgot to take pictures since I started the project.
It was not easy to decide my theme of Journey and technic for sawing.

Three girls are broad member of The Alliance for American Quilts.
Victoria Findlay Wolfe, Michele Muska, Frances Holliday Alford. We were working on our own projects until the time was up!
Actually Frances was making something else in this picture.

Frances's Journey was on the wall.
She spent three weeks in Korea in October.
Can you see what was in her mind?
Korean pink was HOT. So we all use the HOT PINK into our journey.
Many Korean language were on her quilt.

Victoria rolled her work up, but she got ideas and went back to sewing again!Michele was working until the last minute!I worked in my favorite room!
I have a lot of homework. The models of our ice dyeing project.

We came early for setting and interview.

Michele and Brett had the meeting before shooting.
Michele showed all samples and how to use the machine.

Bottom - Michele's felting quilt. The picture is on the box of Needlefelting Machines.
Top - Felting on soft felt.Cut it stripe that can be a bracelet.

Top - Dogie cloth was using Simplicity pattern.
Middle - Felting on Silk Chiffon, Gorgeous!
Bottom - Felting on the black felt and cut the based felt. It was cool looking.

Felting a large felt and cut it the shape like socks, ornaments, tree.
Any shape you want!
For Christmas ornaments. Even you can use it for a Christmas card.

Simplicity donated 6 Machines.
12 needle felting machine is powerful. Truly, I love this machine.

Michele was a great teacher.

The needles were easy to break. It is not necessary 12 needles on the machine.
It can use any number of needles.
Santa Ornament, is this great?I couldn't do my projects much because I was dealing with broken needles.
Then needles were run out.

Ginger Cookies

2 cups all purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup chopped crystallized ginger
1 cup (packed) dark brown sugar
1/2 cup vegetable shortening, room temperature
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, room temperature
1 large egg
1/4 cup mild-flavored (light) molasses

Directions

Combine first 6 ingredients in medium bowl; whisk to blend. Mix in crystallized ginger. Using electric mixer, beat brown sugar, shortening and butter in large bowl until fluffy. Add egg and molasses and beat until blended. Add flour mixture and mix just until blended. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Lightly butter 2 baking sheets. Spoon sugar in thick layer onto small plate. Using wet hands, form dough into 1 1/4-inch balls; roll in sugar to coat completely. Place balls on prepared sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.

Bake cookies until cracked on top but still soft to touch, about 12 minutes. Cool on sheets 1 minute.

Carefully transfer to racks and cool. (Can be made 5 days ahead. Store airtight at room temperature.)

Turkey Meatloaf

2 tablespoons butter (or margarine)
1 cup onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/4 lbs Ground Turkey
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 egg (or 1/4 cup egg substitute)
3/4 cup catsup
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Directions:

Melt butter in a skillet.
Cook onion and garlic in melted butter for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Place mixture in a large bowl to cool for 5 minutes.
Combine turkey, bread crumbs, egg, 1/4 cup of the catsup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper with onion mixture.
Press meatloaf into an 8x4-inch loaf pan.
Spread remaining catsup on top.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 50-55 minutes.
(Internal temperature should reach 165 degrees.) Remove from oven and let stand 5 minutes before serving.

Usually, I don't want to be a model of my creatures.
Emily (from TT) said, "The dress that you wear that only you can wear."
Yes, it might be good on me, but I hope everybody can wear my idea of home suits!
I don't want to be in any pictures, but it is no choice, because I want to you to see these cute home-wear!!!!

First day's choice - Red version of L'amour de la vie
David Brown (president of Timeless Treasures) commented, " You used all fabrics."
What a comments! I needed, "These are Great or Cute or nice !!!!" haha,
You see the Eiffel Tower Apron (Laminated) behind me. I love the style of apron!
I love the quilt and Rain coat.
Second day's choice - Navy version. "Catch of the day" Fish print!!!! Very cute on the dress.
You see the crab, lobster and all in one - Cooking seafood print on my apron behind me! Cutlery Set print is a larger size of my previous print for Blank Quilting. The design has a knife with a spoon and fork! I love the size!!!!
Great quilt and place mats. The Catch of the day Group is really fun kitchen fabric line. Third day's choice - Black version of "L'amour de la vie"

It is a different style from two days apron dress. I wanted to wear this suits on my first day, but it was more Halloween looking and I could wear it on my way to home. So that I have my broom with me!!! I was a good witch!I carried my backpack every day, different flaps.
I asked to take a picture on the last day.
But no other pictures in two days.
(I forgot to ask to take pictures)

My group can coordinate with my other group.
Fruit-a-la-carte and Catch of the day, L'amour de la vie, all can coordinate! Believe me!

Standard lines - Bubble dots, Raindrop and Nettie dots help combination of them.

Table cloth checks (Navy and Red) are going to coordinate other lines, too.
(Even with my Blank Quilting lines.)

I was at the church one Sunday morning. I got an idea of my ipad bag. I was drawing these details on my notebook. I was exited. It was Switchable flaps Back ipad Pack!!!!

I got into to make it. It became exactly same as my image. I'm so good!!!!

I brought it when I took my son to his ice hockey game. I had nothing to do before the game. So I was taking photos in my car and sending the image to my TT's boss, Lisa!
I'm proud of myself.

I'm making the house wears using these fabrics. I'm going to wear three different sets of my new group at the Huston quilt international market.
Pant suits and hat!
Pants were done. Tops is still working on. I never know how they will look like. So it is fun process I'm in now.

Pumpkin Pie

Filling

3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 3/4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 (12-ounce) can evaporated low-fat milk
2 large egg whites
1 large egg
1 (15-ounce) can unsweetened pumpkin

Crust

1/2 (15-ounce) package refrigerated pie dough (such as Pillsbury)
Cooking spray

Topping

1/4 cup whipping cream
1 tablespoon amaretto (almond-flavored liqueur)
2 teaspoons powdered sugar

Directions

Position oven rack to lowest position.
Preheat oven to 425°.
To prepare filling, combine first 6 ingredients in a large bowl, stirring with a whisk. Add pumpkin, and stir with a whisk until smooth.
To prepare crust, roll dough into an 11-inch circle; fit into a 9-inch pie plate coated with cooking spray. Fold edges under and flute.
Pour pumpkin mixture into the crust. Place pie plate on a baking sheet. Place baking sheet on lowest oven rack. Bake at 425° for 10 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350° (do not remove pie from oven); bake an additional 50 minutes or until almost set. Cool completely on wire rack.
To prepare topping, beat cream with a mixer at high speed until stiff peaks form. Add the amaretto and powdered sugar, and beat until blended. Serve with pie.

Creative weekend in VT

Finally, Michele and I made wonderful visiting Frances Holliday Alford who is an excellent fiber artist is living in VT.
How lucky am I?? I was invited!!!!

I was wondering we still can go to see Frances after Irene (Hurricane ) hit VT.
Her town had a lot of damages. However, Frances said, "Still our plan is ON." (9/ 9. 10 11)

I picked up Michele in CT where she lives. I drove two hours. We were heading to VT. Michele drove 2 hours. Good deal, Perfect!

We were late to start because of me. I was late to start!
I started packing for three days in the morning. It took a couple of hours to decide what I should bring.

When I picked up Michele at her house, she had so many things to bring.
She prepared for this weekend.
I didn't know what was Michele's plan or Frances's plan for that weekend at all.
We arrived at Frances's was around 5:00.
Because I wanted to spend time with Michele's mother for a while at Michele's house.
We wanted to be together with Michele's friend Jan for a while at her store.
It was all great meeting!!!

Guess, their plans were CREATIVE! What a great plan was!

Michele's idea was Felting!!! She brought a bunch of yarns in her red suitcase. Huge pink board.
We went to the restaurant, I think, the restaurant is part of the inn . (The Old Tavern at Grafton)
Her studio is located next to the inn.
We were in her studio after dinner and made ..... this artwork.
Frances's sister Sallie was there from Maine. So four of us's ARTWORK!

PUNCH IT!ROLL IT! WET IT! DRY IT!MOUNTED IT! Two days work!

We did other experiment art work at the same time. Ice Dye
Frances did snow dyeing last winter.Many fabrics (Cotton, Linen, Nylon, Chiffon, more) were under ice cubes (with Soda Ash water) . The Old Tavern gave us all ice cubes.

Best part! Frances has all colors. We could choose any colors.
Her studio was like a craft store.Wait next morning until ice melt!Wonderful surprised!

Second day's night, Frances, Michele and I were working here until 2:00 am

Ha, I'm still lucky!

OOPs, one more great things of Frances. She is having the art show at her town's Art Gallery.
The Gallery is located in front of the inn.
She does Postcard Art. She has million of the art postcards that she made!
She is constantly making these amazing artwork.
One postcard should be mailed 5 to 6 times. She or friends add artwork on it each time.
Here, at the show, 15 x 15 = 225 postcards were displayed.
One more postcard was next to her profile.
My son's name was on it. The meaning of the character is "All" "Perfect"
Besides Ski and Skateboard were on it. Frances gave it to my son! Amazing!Her butler, Dante Falcone's photographs were beautifully displayed at the Gallery, too.

I have been in Quilt market (The trade show) since 2000 with Michael Miller's as a house designer. I do design for cotton fabrics since I moved to US, 1993.
I did the work Cotton print work in Japan, but it wasn't for the quilt market.
I have learned about Quilt World in US. I didn't know Quilt world as an artist. I'm in now. I'm very happy to know all creators and share creativity.

On our way to go to Grifton, VT where Frances Holliday Alford is living. Michele and I stopped by the town calls Brattleboro where is Michele's favorite town. It was very cute town and very arty!
Jan and Michele became good friends since Michele found this store. She uses Jan's fabrics into her quilt work.Gorgeous fabrics were allover. See the buttons, beautiful.
She has many antique hats. I don't know they were sale or decorations.
I found a cabbage hat (Bottom left corner). It was really cute. Other hats were gorgeous as well.
The cabinet couldn't move and open in this time. I have to come back and try on all.
Jan put this fabric on her work desk. Just beautiful.
Jan is a store owner, a quilter and a pianist. She is a one of talented artist.
She gave me her CD. "A Little Heartbreak" 2005.
Wow, excellent music. I can listen every day.
Her music reminded me Enya that I used to practice myself.
I opened my piano, and started to play "Watermark" but I couldn't play well.
Need practices again.

Stuffed Mushrooms

12 large fresh mushrooms, stems removed
1 (6 ounce) package chicken flavored dry stuffing mix
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/2 pound imitation crabmeat, flaked
2 cups butter
2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
salt and pepper to taste
garlic powder to taste
crushed red pepper to taste

Directions

Arrange mushroom caps on a medium baking sheet, bottoms up. Chop and reserve mushroom stems.
Prepare chicken flavored dry stuffing mix according to package directions.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Mix in garlic and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
In a medium bowl, mix together reserved mushroom stems, prepared dry stuffing mix, cream cheese and imitation crabmeat. Liberally stuff mushrooms with the mixture. Drizzle with the butter and garlic. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder and crushed red pepper.
Bake uncovered in the preheated oven 10 to 12 minutes, or until stuffing is lightly browned.

NY’s Ultimate Block Party: Cocktails at The City Quilter

One month and a half later @ The City Quilter.Sooooo, Cute!!!!

Friday, August 5, 2011, 7:00-10:00 p.m.

I attended all events! Lucky :)
All of them were very excited events.
Meet friends and make more friends, too.

The events were gathering talented artists.

I posted "Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts" on March 29th.
I was invited the tour for the Red and white Quilts show with Alliance for American Quilts members. 5 months after the last event, I met the members again.
It was nice to meet all talented artists again!
We had another excellent days!!!!

First event,
Vicoria Findlay Wolfe's interview was great.
Her Grandmother's Quilt was my favorite!
Definitely she got influence from her Grandmother.
(It inspired me. Wonderful!)

Second event,
My favorites were

Luke Hayners's performance when I took the pictures. He wore Jay McCarroll's Costume that he made for school (FIT) project. Mark Lipinski was interviewed Jay. They were a perfect match.

These are my favorite artist Frances Holliday Alford's work.

I just love them.

Third event @ the city Quilter!!!!
My favorite were these quilts by board members. I just love all.

Dissolve sugar in water thoroughly before adding all ingredients. Makes 30-40 ice candies.

I have to buy "OYAKI" and eat! The taste of my country side where I was born! OYAKI(Parent Tree) - Containing buckwheat flour and fragrant skin. Lightly fried in oil and burn it in a kiln from the containment squeeze the taste. Utilizing the characteristic is a healthy taste of the material. Inside - Maitake mushroom, mixed vegetables, Vegetable Nozawa, miso green onion, radish, cut maternal, squash, bean paste grain, Beech shimeji, thistle (mountain vegetables), other kinds, are also available Eresin of seasonal ones.

Beer Brewery and Bookstore, and more!

The name of the bookstore is "Standard Bookstore" in Osaka, Umeda Area,
in Nu-Chayamachi Building 2nd Floor.
This Bookstore sells local beers. Interesting!
I consider myself a beer taster, a beer lover. I love craft beer from the brewery. (Domestic Beers.)
Look, these are cute labels. I choose things by graphics first as I mentioned it on my Japanese blog "Kimamaya-notes"
But the taste is more important than graphics after you tasted.
Kind of like how you can't judge a book by it's cover.
I was surprised at the name of it, "Minoh beer" because I live in Minoh! I never know about it.
I asked, "Where can I buy these beers?"
A man was working the cafe said,
"You can drink here."
"Well, I don't want to be drunk, now"
Because I wanted to taste all of 4.

I was on my way to go to one of the biggest bookstores in Japan called Maruzen "Junkudo".
It should be written "Junekudo" then we can pronounce right English way.
My best friend recommended the bookstore "Junkudo" because I needed for special books for my work.

* I was happy to be in Japan, because I see these English mistakes that I do make all the time.
My son knows where come from my mistakes now!
What we discovered on this trip,

Word Cup instead of World Cup on TV
Orijinal instead of Original - Children clothing store's catalog
Oliginal instead of Original - Minoh Beer's website
Karl instead of Curl on Japanese snack's package

We can't do well differences of R and L, J and G, V and B, F and H, S and TH, No Z sound.

I came back home and googled "MINOH BEER"
It wasn't far from my place.
My friend drove me there. I bought 6 different bottles!
About $4. Set of 6 $24 it is very expensive!
They said it was started 14 years ago. I left Japan 18 years ago. I couldn't travel to Japan for 10 years until 2003. No wonder, I didn't know anything about Japanese Beer movements. It has been popular these original beers everywhere in Japan.
If I stay in Japan longer, I will be busy hunting Beer allover the country. :)

I like this poster.They make Original Beer labels for individual events, such as a wedding party, memorial events or Business promotions.

It is an interesting service.Let me think "Hoodie Beer" or "Goodies Beer" by Hoodie?

Go back to about Standard Bookstore, I went to their blog.
Catch title of the store, "It is the bookstore, but there are no BEST SELLERS."

I had a chance to go to head Standard Bookstore where was in Shinsaibashi area.
It was easy to find after lunch with my work relationship Mr. Ito from Lecien at Nishi-ohashi, one station from Shinsaibashi.

Fashion, Fashion, style, style. WWD in Japanese, wow.These books are about Records. Beloved.Foods, recipes, what else do you need? Apron?!Mom, your products need funky graphics!

We needed rest from a long walk at their cafe.

We stayed one hour and half at the bookstore cafe.
The talk show was started when we seated. Then we stayed there to the end.
My son was playing a game on the iPad.
One guest who was a photographer brought his ipad and showed his pictures. He mentioned his link, too.
My son said, "No Wi-Fi here. What the point to bring iPad and mention the link?"
We need Wi-Fi at the Bookstore's cafe!
The interviewer mentioned about Lady Gaga who was in Japan at the time.
My son started to talk about her.
The singer was another guest, and she sang a song in English.
My son mentioned Japanese accent of English song.
He commented something for each guest.
He picked up some English words which he could hear and guess what people were talking about. It was funny he sounded to understand all.

A man sat down next to me during the talk show.
He went to the stage and introduced a couple of books as the last guest for the talk show.
He was the owner of the Bookstore.
We spoke for a while after the talk show by chance.
He got an idea of new style bookstore when he traveled to NY eight years ago.
He hasn't come back to NY since then.
I mentioned MINOH BEER that I saw at his second store in Umeda.
It got to interested his store more. I wanted to came to head store before we leave Osaka.
Three sisters started business of the craft beer 14 years ago in MINOH.
He has a good relationship with them.
He likes "Rolling Rock".
Hope he should come to NY again and try American tasty craft beer.
It was a nice meeting!

I think the selection of his bookstore is crossover cultures.
This bookstore has the mixture of Osaka taste and global sense.
I loved Play Guide Journal Magazine which created Osaka's art and music culture around 1970's to 80's. Their events were reminded me in those days.
It seems he supports many artists in Osaka. That is great!

I was refreshed! I needed it!
It was great motivation for my next upcoming projects.

Florist Mary ---- I found this store in Osaka city / Umeda area. One of my next projects is "Gardening Group"
Get some inspirations.

I bought a Hibiscus plant last year around this time.
When it got cold, The leaves shrunk badly.
I would think that it was telling me to be inside.
But I wasn't sure it got healthy again or not at the time.
Fortunately, it was very healthy during the winter in my warm kitchen.
It went back to the front as soon as spring had come.

I was telling my son that I forgot to ask my friend to take care of the plant during our trip.
I thought if it gets rain a couple of days during our trip, the plant should survive.

It was a pretty dumb idea.

When we got back, the plant's leaves were completely dry.
It was very sad looking.

But, I gave the water anyway before I went to bed.

Next day, I opened the door.
The plant was awake! It's leaves had sprouted again.Amazing! Leaves are starting shining, healthy green.
A flower was blossoming yesterday.
I keep repeating, "It's a miracle!"

* I took this picture in this morning, the flower hasn't been blossoming yet. It will blossom later afternoon and another flower is ready to blossom too.

We write our wishes on small papers and hang them on the bamboo trees for "Tanabata".
My son did it when he went to the mall with his Japanese friend.
He's learning Japanese culture through his friends.
Hope his wish will come true!
Tanabata (七夕, meaning "Evening of the seventh") is a Japanese star festival, originating from the Chinese Qixi Festival. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively). According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month of the lunisolar calendar. The date of Tanabata varies by region of the country, but the first festivities begin on July 7 of the Gregorian calendar. The celebration is held at night.
----- It was rain in Osaka. We couldn't see stars. Hope they could meet last night.

I took the picture at ISETAN (Department Store) in Osaka. ISETAN that s high-end department store opened a couple of months ago. ISETAN based in TOKYO EAST area, so it is new for OSAKA WEST area. Umeda area (North Osaka) is trendy zone in these days.

My son and I were impressed at the basement floor - food floor.
All department stores provide a food market at basement.
Can you believe this is meat? So neat!!!!!!!

Fruit cocktail

30-40 ml vodka (per person)
1 tbsp lime juice (if you enjoy your drinks a little more sour, like I do)
2 (or more) kinds of different-colored fruit (Example, strawberries and Orange, Apple and Pineapple, etc.) - the amount depends on how much you want to make
ice

Directions

Blend the first type of fruit with half (if you use 2 kinds of fruit) or 1/3 (if you use 3 kinds) the ice, vodka and lime juice.
Pour into cocktail glass.
Blend the next type of fruit with another part of the vodka and ice.
Using a spoon, put the mixture on top of the cocktail glass, creating a layered effect.
Yes, it's going to seep through, that's the point :).
Repeat for every type of fruit used.
Decorate the glass with a piece of fruit and enjoy.

My has been playing ice hockey since he was 5 years old. I took him skating at the ice house down in Hackensack when he was 4. Just like my father used to take me. I made him use these white figure skates that my friend had sent me from Japan. (I took him skiing when he was 4 as well. He flips now....)
Picture -2005 He was 10.
He didn't like it when I held his hand. He didn't know how to stop, so he used to run into the wall over and over again, until he learned to stop. He would watch other kids skating that knew how to skate like hockey players, and he learned...quickly actually.
He didn't want to wear figure skates any more.

I signed him up for a hockey league without taking any lessons. It was only about 125.00, but I paid 350.00 for his equipment. I told him this,
"You may not quit ice hockey for AT LEAST three years."

He never quit. That was the problem. I would pay a higher price every year..When my son moved up to high school, we discussed his options for his ice hockey career.
The high school he attends doesn't have a hockey team.
We both made the decision not to go to private school just because of ice hockey. He made the choice to play a short season (September - November).
High school hockey starts on November 15th every year.

He needed as much ice time as possible, due to his situation and all. He became an Ice hockey official or a Reff. He also played for a club team this past winter, but many games were lost due to not enough kids showing up based on their High school game schedules.

He showed up to every single practice and even the younger kids practices to fit in as much ice time as he possibly could.
He and his friends found out about this tournament. Little did they know that this was a very, very competitive tournament. The best freshman, sophomores, juniors, and even graduating seniors showed up to this tryout.
Garden State Games Ice Hockey- SCHOLASTIC - High School Tournament.Majority of the kids who participated in this tournament play for famous Hockey schools all over New Jersey. As well as playing for AAA or Junior teams, both already pro hockey. (They play full season from September to March, AA and under play short season from September to November.)
I never thought of him making it. We knew at least 50 kids that were cut from the tryout.
Somehow he was chosen. His friends couldn't make it.

He was the only Player in the tournament that doesn't play for a high school team.
He never even tried out for a AAA or Junior team.
They chose 80 kids and divided them into 4 teams, all very evenly distributed for a competitive tournament.
Every single game was very close. All teams had chance to win.
There were three preliminary games, ours had placed 4th with an 0-1-2 record.
Playoffs @ Prudential Center (Devil's Practice rink) We beat the team who placed first. 5 - 2.

Today was the championship game.
We gave up two goals in the first period.

Third period, our team woke up and scored two quick ones.
Other team scored again making it 3 - 2. Then We tied it again. 3 - 3.Then our team scored one more goal.
We gave them a power play, but we killed it to the end.
After winning they gave the second place team medals, our team got champion hats. (Wasn't a medal, it was a hat. Funny), The director of the tournament who had announced each kid's name asked my son when it was his turn, he said "How did you end up here? Your school doesn't even have a hockey team."
My son said, "I don't know, but I'm trying."He played with and against many graduating seniors who are playing for college teams next season. My son is sophomore.
It was a great experience for him. I was very pleased that he could be part of this.
I enjoyed watching these games a lot.
He is playing for Bandits AA this up coming season.
He learns about life through tryouts and games, I really hope he is.
His new season will start after our Japan trip. He will play with his best friends. It will be a fun season for him!

The most difficult part about it is self discipline, to conquer yourself.

What a great feeling it was when we won!

By the way, am I a good motion photographer? I took about 200 pictures through out the two games at the PruCenter. My son got many great pictures. I think he's a lucky boy! His number was 8. This was a lucky number too.

She is an adorable baby, isn't she.

I was with Simplicity members, at Etsy 7th floor on Monday.

And Drew and Brett. Brett Bana was interviewing Drew.
Drew was holding my fabric, Hoop dots Col/ Eggplant

Craft night started 4:00, ended 8:00.
I bought some my new fabrics for TT with me.
She was using my Lemon and Raindrops fabrics.Simplicity Deluxe Rotary Cutting and Embossing Machine is amazing. It cut two layers fabrics, even 4 layers. Joint each fabric stripe. Make fabric thread. Then, crochet it.The project was a coaster.

My mother was a master of crochet and knit. I was watching her master pieces since I was a little. I learned from my mother. Besides I had school projects a couple of times. So I can make some easy crochet projects.

Some people never tried crochet in their life. The day was their first trial.
It seems they were hard to hold yarn (or fabric stripe), so they are easy to lose their process.
Once they got the point, they could had made their own coaster.

It was fun to teach people, because I could see happy smile after they could has made their master pieces!!!!! It was my first time to teach crochet in English. I didn't know right English words for crochet, but my demonstrations were helped. Smile!
This coaster is my master piece.
Using the fabrics - Nettie Dots/Brown, Bubble Dots/ Red and Leaf My three collections (Nettie Dots, Raindrops, and Bubble dots) are very good for fabric stripe crochet or knitting projects. Because the collection has many colors and can make much color coordination. I'm planning to make crochet projects using my fabrics. Maybe, hat and bag.

We didn't go any of place in the pictures. We went to Sushi place. They had Hot and sour miso soup. I never heard it. Spicy tuna! It is a American sushi. Hot and sour miso soup is a Chinese Japanese soup. It is very creative foods. I can't eat this taste in Japan!There was two beautiful American girls with fan at Sushi restaurant!All about craft night @ Dumbo.

What is going on The City Quilter in NYC?

The City Quilter is located Belly Button (Center) of Manhattan, 133 West 25th Street.
They opened Gallery for the quilters. (The ArtQuilt Gallery·NYC')
I went to the opening party for Noriko Endo whose Impressionist Quilts. (She is a second quilt artist for the gallery. )
Look, Noriko and her beautiful artwork!She said,

"I love the fine art by oil paints. But I can't paint on the canvas. So I tried fine art by sewing."
Of course, we spoke in Japanese!

Her amazing work at The City Quilter will be until August 6th.
The City Quilter have many sewing classes.
If you fell like to start something new, sewing is a great challenge!!!

They have a large selection of fabrics in the store. Well, my all veggies were there.
Most of them were sold out. Few yards of Green Pepper were still there.

They are selling some my designs from Joy Basket.

Special Pasta Soup

1 medium butternut squash, peeled, deseeded and diced small
6 medium tomatoes, quartered
1 large onion, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, peeled and left whole
10 sage leaves
2 sprigs rosemary
Salt and pepper
2 tablespoons Italian extra virgin olive oil, plus extra for greasing and drizzling
2 litres vegetable stock
100g/ 4 oz very small pasta shapes
½-inch stick cinnamon
1 level teaspoon red chilli flakes
100g/ 4 oz cooked cannelloni or borlotti beans (from a tin)
2 tablespoons flat-leaf parsley, chopped
4 tablespoons vegetarian Pecorino cheese, coarsely grated

Directions

1. Pre-heat the oven to 200 degrees C/ fan oven to 180 degrees C/ or gas mark 6.
2. In a greased baking tray, place the squash, tomatoes, onion, garlic, sage and rosemary, spreading everything around evenly. Season to taste, drizzle with 2 tablespoons olive oil, and toss the vegetables lightly so that they are evenly coated.
3. Place the baking tray in the oven and roast for 30 minutes until the vegetables are soft and beginning to brown.
4. Once cooked, let the vegetables cool slightly, then take the peel off the tomatoes. Discard the tomato peel, garlic, sage and rosemary. The garlic and herbs are only used to infuse the squash with flavour – you won’t need them in the soup as they will be somewhat coarse and bitter on the tongue.
5. Heat the stock in a soup pan and bring to the boil. Add the pasta, cinnamon and chilli flakes, and simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes.
6. Add the roasted vegetables and beans, and simmer for a further 5 minutes until the pasta is cooked. Add more seasoning to taste.
7. Ladle the soup in individual bowls, and sprinkle with parsley, cheese and, if desired, a little more olive oil.

Beautiful display at Timeless Treasures Booth. (Thank you, Emily!)

It was trilled! We made it in short time!

When I got pieces of my fabrics, some of the designs were less than 24". It was April 29th.
I wasn't sure what I should make for the show from them.
More fabrics should be in the office next week, but we needed to start to make.

I sent 5 pieces of fabrics for the Friday bag to Kris Poor right away.
I started to draw the ideas of projects in the first weekend of May.

In the meantime, Kris Poor was getting fabrics from Timeless Treasures and kept making next bag to the next bag. She reported me each stage and sent us pictures of her bags. (All of them were posted on my blog.)
She was off from her work a day before Mother's day. (Thank you, Kris!)

I asked to make seven Annabel kid aprons (Hoodie's Goodies) from small pieces fabrics to my sewer, Lisa. (Thank you, Lisa!)
But half of aprons couldn't arrive at the show. Pineapple, Cherries, Watermelon, Music instruments are not in the picture. They were mis-located by UPS.

I started making baby dress, quilted bib, bonnet and booties.
Wing and A Prayer Design made Alien Quilt. (Thank you, Toni and Jenny!)

Then I made Pineapple and Apple aprons and brought Timeless Treasures on Tuesday morning 10th.
I could sleep only two hours!

I wanted to make Six Aprons from black ground of Strawberry, Lemon, Watermelon and Cherries.

I could make Strawberry and Lemon. I couldn't make Watermelon and Cherries.
Instead of the apron, I made Watermelon ipad handbag and Cherries shoulder bag.
I left to SLC on Thursday morning, 12th. I couldn't get enough sleep before the market.
I love the watermelon ipad bag!!!! It was very successful, useful for my ipad!
The details of the ipad bags (I have designs more than one) will be out on Hoodie's pincushion soon!

Baby's quilted bib and bonnet's detail will be out on Hoodie's Pincushion as well!

My Applique Cafe apron's instructions will be on the magazine. I'm going to announce details of book situation soon.

I love this Apple bag. ( I love the Onion too. Do you remember?)
Inside fabric is purple Nettie dot. Beautiful color.

I love this apple and pear design. My apple that image come from my childhood's memories of an apple box.
I was born in NAGANO where is famous for Apples (Shinsyu apple). Since my father had transferred his job in the city of Osaka, our relatives sent us a box (maybe Boxes) of apple every winter. There was an apple and name on the side of the box. The box was strong, so we used it for storing box. When I was at the school. I guess, it was a middle school.
We had an art project which was painting on a dish. I drew of cutting apple in half.

We don't have the woman's body shape of pear in Japan. I love that shape because I couldn't get it.
We call the woman's body shape of pear - Western pear, so I used the Western pear for one of my illustration for AD. In
I hope I still have that illustration work. I believe I gave original work to my first American stylist who helped me to be in US.
So behind a scene of my artwork....... Mixture of Eastern and Western, again.

I made disappointments not to make the patterns of veggie apron.
It became Fruit aprons.

Poorhouse Quilt Design put "All That Jazz" Group onto her Monday Messenger Bag.
This is Kris Poor's pattern picture. These prints are looks familiar, right. She used my "Spring Fever" group for Blank Quilting (Discontinued) onto her bag two years ago.
It was introduced on Quick Quilts.
Now, it is with "Music" This is excellent for school or lessons.

I made a pattern of baby dress (Size 12 months) in this morning (May 6th) for my mannequin.
I got more fabrics from the back entrance of TT in SOHO, New York.
It is a beautiful day in the city. But my case, I drove the city here to there.
At least I opened my window. :)
Now, project time!
I'm going to use Alien's fabrics for my baby mannequin that is going to Salt Lake City, too.

Tomato Soup

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 cup chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup chopped carrot
1/4 cup chopped celery
2 (28 ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
3 1/2 cups vegetable broth
1 tablespoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 drops hot pepper sauce

Directions for Tomato Soup

Heat oil in a large Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Saute onion and garlic until onion is tender.
Add carrot and celery; cook 7 to 9 minutes until tender, stirring frequently. Stir in tomatoes, broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, thyme, pepper and hot pepper sauce. Reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer 20 minutes, stirring frequently.

Since Japan had started selling Hoodie's Goodies after the earthquake and Tsunami.
I had been working hard to back up for them.

I asked "Will we do our plans for Hoodie's Goodies?"
Tail Tree's owner said, "Are you kidding?"
"No one stop working. Everybody is working! We have to keep going."

I couldn't believe to hear the strong words.
I believe we will make it!

My friend who own a small restaurant (Izaka-ya) in Sendai. (Tsunami area) He reopened his Izaka-ya last week.
I read his business blog.
It seemed his family needed to move to the new place. He wants to open his Izaka-ya even he overworks. He has no choice to start in limited menu. He put some pictures of customers. They looked happy at the moment with drink! I feel strong energy.

We all (NY area) remember 9.11 2001. We were strong too.
I worked, I drew a design "Patriotic Pal" for Michael Miller Fabrics. (I guess, this is a name for that design. Same feeling with "I think, I can" or Cowpokes and Cowgirls.)

We (Japan and US) are preparing Hoodie's aprons for "Mother's day"

My friends (Michele and Amy) needed to go to ETSY for interviewing a Quilter who was Emily Fischer. Amy Milne (AAQ) put the interview on Facebook. Check it out!

I was with them at DUMBO, an acronym for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass!
What a cool name for the area. (I love a young circus elephant who has enormous ears.)
After interview - ETSY night (Monday 4:00 to 8:00) was ON!

I heard, this is a new place for ETSY night.

They prepared materials for today's project.There was very expensive Bernina sewing machines.

This is a project. Emily was teaching how to make a wrist band that she wore on her left wrist.This picture is showing my wrist band project.
Run out time because of our dinner.
Besides sewing machines were taken. It was very cloud.

So I brought it with me and finished at home.
Emily's had a button hole, but I completed it without sewing machine. No button hole!

New Jersey girls don't go to Brooklyn often!
It is not a good attitude. Take F train. It is easy to get there!

Be a strong, like a weed. Like Tampopo!

I remember,
My American friend was pulling Tampopo, and she was very upset about Tampopo at their yard.
She mumbled, "I hate weeds."
Americans pick up Tampopo, blow the seeds and wish, too.
Their wish is going to everywhere and became weeds.
Then they hate Tampopo again.
I'm happy to see yellow weeds at my yard.
It should be OUT, but I let them stay.
I have good memories of my childhood with weeds and my father.
My father didn't want to stay his country side where he was born and raised. (Nagano)
He moved the city (Osaka) with his family. I was three and half.
He missed nature in the city. So he and I went to fishing and correcting plants at the mountain often.
We walked and walked. He never drove the car in his life.
When he lost his way, he said,
"Don't get a panic, the road will show where we should go. It takes us right place."
We picked up weeds and played with them.

When people see Tampopo in Japan where is destroyed and suffering right now.
They appreciate it, and they will be a strong like a weed. We should be like a weed.

quI had been thinking what is my imagination from Alliances: People, Patterns, Passion for a long time.
I started making it 4 days before the dead line March 7th.
I'm a last minute LUCY! as usual.

I have been making quilts since 2009 for the "Small Wall Quilt Challenge 2009" by Simplicity.
I got first place for 2010
The Breast Cancer Awareness Designer Bandana Quilt Challenge.

I made one for our Tokyo show.
It is still 4th quilts in my life.
I should make more quilts.
BUT I don't still. So I can't miss my opportunity to make
a quilt.

I have been using my own fabrics for my quilts so far.
I have had chosen from more than 100 fabrics for Blank Quilting, wow!

She was the ONE who wears the "Tomato Dress".
She dreams every day. She enjoys each dress 7 days a week.
Her dream is coming true, soon.

I'm sure mine is different from others because I'm not a quilter yet.

February was a short month. Besides there was President week.
I was sick. I was skiing. I was making new fabric groups.
I'm working new people since new year started.
It is adjusting time in many way right now.
Please patient, new things are coming soon!

Shrimp Scampi

2 pounds large uncooked shrimp, shelled and deveined*
1/2 cup butter
1 teaspoon salt
6 cloves garlic, crushed
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 teaspoon lemon zest
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
lemon wedges

Directions for Shrimp Scampi

*Leave shell on tail section, if desired. Preheat oven to 400°.
Melt butter in a 13x9x2-inch baking pan in oven.
To the melted butter, add the salt, crushed garlic, and 1 tablespoon of the chopped parsley.
Stir well.
Arrange shrimp scampi in baking pan in a single layer. Bake, uncovered, for 5 minutes.
Turn shrimp; sprinkle with lemon zest, lemon juice, and the rest of the parsley.
Bake shrimp scampi for 8 to 10 minutes, or until just done.
Arrange shrimp scampi on hot serving platter; pour garlic butter from pan over the shrimp and garnish with several lemon wedges. Shrimp scampi serves 4 to 6.

* I added recipes on January's and February's. These are all my favorite menu.

Clam Chowder

3 slices bacon, diced
1 cup chopped onion
3 cups diced potatoes
1 bottle (8 ounces) clam juice
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 cans (approximately 7 ounces each) minced clams
3 tablespoons flour
2 cups half-and-half
1 cup milk

Cook bacon until crisp in a Dutch oven or large, heavy saucpan.
Remove bacon to paper towels with slotted spoon; drain.
Add onion to bacon drippings; sauté until softened.
Add potatoes and clam juice, salt, and pepper.
Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.
Remove from heat.
Add minced clams with their liquid. Whisk flour into milk; add to chowder with half-and-half. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until clam chowder thickens and bubbles, or about 3 minutes.
Clam chowder recipe serves 4.

I worked very hard to fix colors in this group for 6 months with the printer in the last year.
Finally, I satisfied the result of colors, Blank Quilting dropped main design and brown colorway.

This is my original design group.

People say ... "This group is not like Hoodie's style." But you see the main design, you understand it was "Hoodie!"
I wanted to make a Back Pack, outside - my main design (Leaf), inside - using others in patchwork.

They are still gorgeous! I usually could get my fabrics when they printed.
They never come to my door.
I don't have Natureland fabrics yet.
So I haven't made anything yet with Natureland.
BUT

My friend / Kris Poor (Poorhouse Quilt Designs) is making her bag using Purple/ Step-in-seed and Lacework.AND my onion, too. It will be COOL.

Check it out, My Lacework is gorgeous with many colorways.
I handed colors to Blank Quilting last year already.

Strawberry Shortcake

Ingredients

1 large angel food cake

For the custard:

1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 (12-ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

For the glaze:

1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
3 tablespoons strawberry gelatin (recommended: Jell-O)
1 cup water
2 cups fresh strawberries, cut in 1/2 (if berries are extra large, they can be cut into quarters)
Whole fresh strawberries and mint leaves, for garnish

Directions

Slice cake, using a serrated knife, horizontally into 3 equal layers.

For the custard:

Mix together cream cheese, condensed milk, and whipped topping in a bowl; set aside.

For the glaze:

In a medium saucepan, stir together sugar, cornstarch, and gelatin; add water. Cook stirring over medium heat until thick. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely. Fold in strawberries.

For assembly:

Place 1 layer of cake in a large clear bowl. Top with a layer of glaze, followed by a layer of custard mixture. Repeat layering in this order for remaining cake, glaze and custard. Top cake with 3 whole fresh strawberries and fresh mint leaves.

My Christmas Story.

This is a tree at Bryant Park. I supposed to post it before Christmas, but I didn't.

My Christmas Eve,

I supposed to go to The Craft Lounge. Then I supposed to get a box from Sue's house for Nancy, two packs of meatball from IKEA for our Christmas Eve party at Lisa's and cakes from our favorite bakery in our neighbors town for Christmas party on the actual day 25th at Pam's.
I couldn't do any of my duties.

Because

My dog, Chowder ran away. My son opened our garage when Chowder was there.
He didn't come home for three hours!
When I called him or chased him, he ran away more.
He looked at me and ran the other way. He come home by himself usually in an hour.
He was in my yard, but he didn't come to the door. He sat at drive way, but he didn't come to the door.
My son and I tried to capture him with his favorite treat several times.
Whenever he looked us, he ran the other way.

He loves the game always when he gets out.

It was longest hours! Three hours.
Our neighbors came out for walking their dogs.
Chowder showed and played with the neighbor's dogs.
We captured Chowder, finally.

It was 4:00 pm.
Our party will start 5:30 pm. We needed to drive an hour to get there.
We needed to leave.

Chowder ran away a week ago at mid night. We came back from my son's ice hockey game and opened the garage door.
Chowder ran away!
I tried to catch him and tripped and fall on the drive way.
I injured on my face, fingers and knees.
I'm still looked awful.

Our garage door was broken for two years. I finally replaced new garage door.
We are not get used to deal with my dog and new garage door!

Next day, on Christmas day. I waked up 7:00 am and went to our favorite bakery.
Our American family loves this bakery's cake!!!!
Of course, bakery was closed. Super Markets were closed!

Town was so quiet!

But Korean bakery was opened. There was expensive beautiful Christmas cakes.
I wasn't sure my American family like the taste of Asian Cake.

I was thinking, I was thinking,
I decided to go to my favorite diner that make best Strawberry short cake.
It was so empty on my way. BUT, Diner was packed, I never know Americans go to Diner on Christmas day morning.

They could sell their cheese cake for me. It was huge!!!!!
I couldn't buy other cakes because they baked on their plates.
I got two piece of strawberry cakes as well.
We all said Merry Christmas at the diner at early morning.

I decided to bring my favorite Japanese cream puff, too.
They gave me a free cream puff to me.
9:00 am, I said "Merry Christmas!" with many people and I got a present already.

I came back home and waked up my son. I was very happy to tell him what I got already!
He was happy to eat a strawberry short cake!!!
We started watching "The Christmas Story" as our traditional Christmas day!
Then we opened our presents.
My son baked Cinnamon roll for his cousin! Then we went to our American sister's house.

All American love Diner Cake. So am I!!!
I got a wonderful Christmas and my favorite cakes!

P.S. I forgot taking pictures of cakes. Geeee! All gone!

Bryant Park Holiday Market in NY / J-wave

She is a store owner, YUKO who wore Japanese Character costume.
Halloween was over! I know, But.....
These costumes remind me my favorite movie "A Christmas story"
Ralphie got a pink rabbit costume (bunny pajamas) from Aunt Clara on Christmas morning,.

It is unique Christmas present! Besides it is warm.

Yuko says, "I like people smile. These costumes make smile and happy."
Her company sells mainly stationery goods.
She coordinated animal's goods in her Holiday market store at Bryant Park for this year.
She put Hoodie's Goodies space at the center of the store.
They are different from others, but they are blending in the store.
My Cats and Fish are displaying. So far - no price on it.
I still don't have a time to make them. Sorry!

It has been open for two weeks. (November 4th - January 2nd)

It is a great quilt!!
You can download pattern FREE!
Many people might missed seeing it. It was displayed at dead zone of the booth.

It was a good location for the people were in the booth, but it wasn't good location from outside of the booth.
Still, we could got the attention because I wore them.

I hope Blank Quilting will make these aprons project sheets ASAP.
Then I can make kits or finish products from Hoodie's Goodies.
It might be a good idea.
The pockets are perfect size for your cell phone.

It's a miracle. I'm the winner!

Announcement!!! My second quilt got the first place!
Thank you! It was a great opportunity to participate a strong mind with breast cancer survivors and their families at the show.
My quilt will travel many places with Simplicity members.
Hope "Miracle" is going to spread everywhere!

It was very interesting to watch people who looked at my quilt.
They looked at all quilts on the wall and stopped in front of mine.
They stepped back and stepped forward.
Then they touched the breast.

I wore my Veggie's apron. Tomatoes!

The Breast Cancer Awareness Designer Bandana Quilt Challenge.

When I got the package from Simplicity, I ignored these bandanas.
So I put them in the closet.
I read the paper before I make the quilt.

Rules:
* Must use our cherish Bandanas
* Must uses Simplicity Studio Tools: 30 and 45 degree triangles, 4.5", 6.5" Squares

Oh, I need the bandanas? Where are they? I needed looking for them in my closet.

They required a Digital image.

My bathroom Tragedy couldn't let me to do any work for long time.
My schedule was behind. I was mentally sick in many reasons.
---- I put the post of my bathroom in a couple of days, but I took it out.

I called Michele and asked, "I need a couple of more days! I need to send you the digital image, right? Then you will choose who can be in the challenge, right?"
She said, "Since you were the winner last year, just go ahead to make it."

Here is my idea on my sketchbook.
Here is my quilt.
See, it is different from my sketchbook..
I was so glad I could skipped a digital image.
I'm not a quilter. I didn't know where to go.
I lost my mother who suffered with Breast Cancer three years ago. My life has changed.
I had a mammogram in this year, and Dr. suspected I might have it. It was very scary moment waiting the result of biopsy. My friend had an operation in this year. My son's Aunt, Barbara is a survivor of Breast cancer.
During the process of making the quilt, I was thinking about my mother and my life, but I didn't cry.
Pink color and my fabrics supported me to finish.
It is a very happy looking quilt. I love the result!
I used to paint many "Blooming woman".
It was my appreciation of life as I was born a woman. We all got birth from the mother who produce milk. I'm glad I could give my milk to my son.
We need BOOBS!
I thought my blooming women could be in my quilt.
They were perfect to fit and symbols of hope on my quilt.

This quilt dedicated to my mother and people are suffering with the breast cancer.

I put all hope into my BOOBS!
God Bless us!
